On start-up if your computer does not recognize the video card then try pulling it with the power on and reinserting it.. you mean pull it and then put it back in after Windows has already loaded?

I suspect you are being deliberately obtuse.

I am deliberately double checking because I do not want to BUST my computer given that I am not made of money!

Okay, yes, wait until you are sure ALL programs and backgrounds are loaded.

I'm no techy but when I boot a machine from disc, I always remove all of my cards and install them back in the puter after my OS loads. I had a similar problem with an audio card until I did it this way.

I just wanted to check because I suspected that a sudden connection might cause a voltage spike causing the power supply to play safe and shut down - depending on how "clever" it is. I already had a USB plug that seemed to trigger a shutdown as I tried to plug it in!

Hiya, The Core i3 CPU has two physical cores. It's a dual core CPU. But in Windows it will show up as having 4 cores, two physical cores and two virtual cores. The two virtual cores are created by a feature called Hyperthreading which is a technology that allows for better multitasking. Your CPU can work on 4 threads at once rather than just two.
As for the video card not being recognised, there are a number of things that could be the cause. The most likely cause is that the BIOS has reset itself and is now using the onboard video (the video built into the motherboard). Most motherboards automatically disable the onboard video as soon as a dedicated video card is installed into the PCI-Express slot but yours might not. The computer can only use one video source at a time, either the integrated video or the video card. I suggest entering BIOS upon startup and disabling the onboard video. Once that is done, the system should use the video card.
Once that's done, if the computer still will not use the video card, make sure that the card has power (direct from the power supply, not the motherboard).
Being a Core i3 i'm assuming it's a pretty new rig so there is probably not much dust going on inside but if it's still not working, take the card out and give the slot a good blowing out with a can of compressed air and make sure the contact points on the video card (the gold parts on the bottom of the card which go into the slot in the motherboard) are clean. To do that, get a pencil eraser and rub it over those contact points.
I hope that helps.

Glad you got it working. What sort of stuff do you use the computer for? If you just do basic stuff like browsing and email and word processing and a bit of music playing/storage and youtube videos then a dedicated card isn't really necessary. The in-built video in the i3 can easily handle that.
Very odd that in this instance it wasn't working and now all of a sudden it is but hey, why complain about good shit, right?
