I often find myself wondering lately what the world at large thinks of us and what we are allowing the religious right do to our Constitution, womens rights, gay rights, and the position on the disabled and elderly.
As for myself I find it embarrassing and humiliating that we allow people who don't even know the laws of this country to even be in the running for positions that can ultimately make the laws.
We have become a nation of hate and war. Many citizens still loudly proclaim that we are number one, even in the face of facts to the contrary.
We have allowed corporations and wealth to completely pervert our government and in turn to ally it against the people. Yet we still preach about taking democracy to other nations who can get along just fine without our "assistance".
So, what are your thoughts?

I more or less agree with that assesment. America's foreign policy leaves a lot to be desired. And the anti science sentiment is growing. That needs to be stamped out.

I certainly agree about the science. Many are in complete denial of any science.

Corrupt evil empires on the way up are "liberal"
Ones on the way down are "conservative."

Not so united but definitely in a state That's not political comment, that's your psychiatric report that is. That's what your therapist presented to the court in your defence.

I've liked most Americans that I have met personally, but they have an odd take on the world.
I think the country is more like the middle east in terms of beliefs and policies than europe. To be honest the guns, death penalty, FOX news, nuking Japan, denying evolution and national healthcare all loom highly on my mentalometer. They seem very proud but I don't get what of.
I do love the comedy, culture and many great things, but there is such variation in this massive country there is no one real unifying thought I have about Americans.

As a Red American (no, not ethnic *chuckle*, I mean politically) I am used to seeing rad-libs, anarchoids and soft "socialists" making lists of my bosses' state's transgressions and crimes.
What I just don't understand is, after reading lists like that, or, even, with some people, knowing enough to be able to WRITE such a list, so many people follow it up with the demand that the police employees of these social criminals be the ONLY ones armed!
Either you trust and like them, or you don't. Either you acknowledge them as stewards of a just and supportable system, or you don't.
If you do, I can understand why you want us all disarmed before their state. But if you DON'T, what possible reason could there be, besides squeamishness taken to the point of being suicidal?
"Splitting the difference" is a sign of a psychiatric disorder.

I am a left leaning gun nut.
I don't stand quietly by while rights of individuals are assaulted because they are different from the mainstream though. I am firmly against the religious right doing what they can to create theocratic laws that actually violate the constitution.

Why would you feel the need to even mention defending rights? Ain't that PART, or, even, the very BASIS of being "left"? Or has the automatic association by soft libs and fake rads of "armed" with "reactionary" soaked into even -your- thinking?

I feel the need to mention rights because our rights are under attack. Under attack from the left and the right. You may be making a mistake by being so quick to put me in a box. I am right on some issues and left on other issues and middle of the road on even more issues. Both sides are nothing but fools screeching like fools and acting like fools. Worse yet, Americans are even bigger fools for swallowing their bullshit.
When religion stops trying to take away rights, when politicians stop trying to take away rights, then I will stop worrying about rights. To do so now would be stupid beyond all reason.
