Our Government did the same thing, just before the Olympics. Did a series of big homeless sweeps, rounded up all the Romanian beggars, and the Brew crew, and the oily lamps, and put them in Hostels in places like Nottingham and Weston-Super -Mare.

Just cuz they "round em up" doesn't mean they're not counted in another way...just saying. I know there are theories bout the 1st world ngo's that try to "do good" in parts like these, but there is an eye out, somewhere, on these places and their "roundin's"...otherwise we wouldn't be privvy to what's what, wot wot?
ANYFUCKINGWAY...having the conference IN Cambodia is a statement...they coulda had it in Hong Kong or another place indelibly corrupted by Western wealth and influence...ignoring the "one night in Bangkok" etc...but instead they aren't.
Sorry, but I choose to think of the fact that not too long ago, no one gave a FUCK about fucking Cambodia and places like it, and the denizens that needed moving off the streets so His Majesty the Black-and-White of an USA could freely move about the city...

My friend came back from Australia last year, via Thailand, and then Cambodia and he said the Cambodian people were some of the most beautiful people he'd ever met (and he's been around) They suffered and suffered so badly under Pol Pot and yet, there didn't seem to be any underlying social sepsis like so many other places torn apart by War in the last thirty yearsy They desperately need the money that tourism will certainly bring it, but they're determined not to become just another sex tourism fleshpot like Thailand has.
And 25 years ago, those beggars would have had a useful and productive role to play. As fertilizer to grow food for the Khmer Rouge. Out of all those Tinpot Maoist fucknuts that sprang up in the 70's and 80's, Pol Pot has to have been the worst. He was fucking insane. He made Stalin look like Nelson Mandela. With a big friendly moustache. A true monster.

So, how is this about Obama exclusively? It seems to me this is about Cambodia, not Obama, and he isn't the only highly influential leader that will be there, right?
Seems to me that the rest of the world should maybe call out Cambodia on this one.

If the rest of the World didn't call out Cambodia on the "Pol Pot" thing, why would they do it for clearing a few beggars away out of sight? |
