He really truly was a "great man". That's a phrase that gets bandied about way too much, but with him it's not really enough to describe who and what he was - nor to how many people, is it?

His loss will be felt among ALL nations. It is a sad day for ndns across the US. May he walk peacefully thru the veil to his beyond.

I don't know as much about NDNs as I should, but even *I* knew about Russell Means. He'll be missed, and his memory forever honored.

He was an almost legendary figure amongst indigenous political leaders here. He spoke at many International conferences for indigenous peoples. His writings were devoured and his community activism strategies were widely adopted by a great many Australian Aboriginal and Islander Land Councils and community leaders.
I know that the local Awabakal Lands Council are having a ceremony to mark his passing and that there is real grief being felt in their ranks at his loss.

He was truly a good man, hate to say this , there are not alot of those around that will speak out for all the people. He will be missed and blest in his passing.
