How many members hold elected office or are an officer of a club or charitable organization?
Four years ago I ran for our Park Board on a lark and won by a record 300 votes in a town of only 1500. This term I announced I wouldn't run again so I could run for City Council next year but I was elected again last week with 7 write-in votes!!!
What should I do, accept or decline? I have until noon today to decide.
I'm a volunteer junkie, I also serve on the County Fair Board, City Tree Board, Crossroads Art Center, Dakota Buttes Tourism Council and our local Chamber of Commerce. Pretty weird for an old brain damaged drug dealer - huh.

Depends how much time it will take off other things you enjoy dunnit? I mean I can see you revelling in being in charge of shit.....you dont suffer fools gladly and being in a position to make decisions that affect your daily life where you live certainly cuts down the potential for having to do that. I hate politics though. I cant bear all the glad handing and all the bullshit. The imposition of people expecting they have the right to way lay you and bend your ear. So you know...whatever floats YOUR boat. Personally I'd run a mile.

It's all part of my narcissism I'm trying to rein under control.
The community knows this and plays me - nobody else wants these feck'n thankless little jobs.
Another reason to quit the park board is would allow me to work for them without conflict on interest. We have a $250,000 budget to take of four parks, a golf course, lake, five ball fields, tennis courts, swimming pool and cemetery. I could make a lot more than my $50 a month salary doing equipment maintenance for them out of my shop here at home with a lot less aggravation.
I'm not into hand shaking or bullshit - it might be another reason I get elected.

Then you need to weigh up how much aggro it's going to cause you to see someone you will - let's face facts here - perceive to be far less competent than you in the position, against the massive amount of free time you win by bowing out of it. My advice is take the money for doing the maintenance and bollocks to how incompetently the thing's being managed. But my guess is you'll take the position - I have a feeling you like to know you're running things.

Another thing I have to consider is if I decline, the county has to hold another expensive (by small town standards) election because there were no other write ins.
It would be kinda rude to decline, I'd be better to dump some of my other duties and forge on with the park board.

Can you accept 'conditionally'?

Can you accept 'conditionally'? Point taken. I see no reason why I can't serve and get paid to work. Any work I do would need majority approval of the board just like any other contractor except I would have to abstain from voting. Thanks - I'm going to bring it up at the meeting, it might need approval of the County Commissioners but I can handle them, they're the ones who would have to pay for a new election.

You could be the first "old brain damaged drug dealer" in the White House since . . . . . . . . Reagan?
