A gun is your last line of defense; it should be kept concealed until it's used, primarily to prevent someone from taking it away from you. Forewarned is forearmed... if they know ya got it, they can plan for it... In a society where it is legal to carry concealed weapons, it must be assumed that the majority of people will be armed. So, if I have reason to confront you, I will draw down on you before you even know I'm there. Flinch and your wasted. In a society that prohibits firearms, concealed or otherwise, it is reasonable to assume the person you are approaching is not armed. As such any encounter with an individual starts off at a much lower rate of tension/stress and it is reasonable to predict is is far less likely to become a violent confrontation. Bad assumptions; I live in an society where concealed carry is legal(licensed). The majority of the people don't carry guns, and all that do know that they're for self defense only. The best thing is that nobody knows who's packing... the little old lady or the jogger you want to mug may be packing. In a society that prohibits firearms, can you assume that everybody follows the law? Basically it's not a good idea to make that kind of assumption. There are these things called criminals, ya know?

Kind'a proves my point. You live in a paranoid society, where you need to think about guns and criminals all the time. I don't.

If there are, you never worry about them... sounds like a good place to be a criminal...

I made a joke once many years ago in the Lobby of the old McNichols Arena during a country concert about being glad they didn't use metal detectors. Everybody got the joke. I also like open carry laws. It forces those who would otherwise consider causing you harm to have some respect. God/ess bless Samuel Colt.

Consider this scenario: You're a mugger, you see three potential victims on the street, all with bulging wallets visible in their back pockets, one is visibly carrying a gun,one may or may not be,and the third obviously isn't(he's wearing shorts and a tight t-shirt). Who do you mug?

Exactly, least risk. I say make your firearms visible.
I'd have the perfect legs for shorts(although one calf muscle is smaller than the other) if they weren't milky white.

I'm pretty fair skinned myself, I haven't had time this year to start a tan. I always had a tan in Florida but we went to the beach alot.
