Do you listen with ear buds, earphones, headphones, laptop, PC speakers, home theater or a sophisticated stereo rig? Do you like your music loud? For years I've been happily listening to my music with a nice little 5.1 surround PC set up at home and Bose earphones on the go. YIPPEE - I'm an instant audiophile and about to knock all the plaster off the walls and blow the windows out. I gave my old Bose 901's and all my vinyl to the ex 25 years ago and I missed them. Yesterday, I bought a piece of audiophile history at auction, a pair of Klipsch LaScala speakers for $50. They still sell new ones for over $4000. They were from a school auditorium and have been stored since the 80's. If they were good enough for Winthrop Rockefeller, they're good enough for me. resource.klipsch.com/pressreleases/klipsch-updates-the-original-klipschorn-la-scala-and-heresy-speakers.htmToday I bought an old Pioneer SX9 300 watt receiver at a yard sale for $10 I'm getting deaf in my old age age and this set-up is cheaper than a hearing aide and where I live I don't have to worry about complaining neighbors - yet??? Any recommendations for music best played chest pounding loud would be appreciated.

I've got a JBL shelf system, a lovely mid sized set of components that sound great, don't take over the whole room and has a remote control which isn't so complex you need to be an engineer to drive it. but I actually listen to masses of my music through headphones off the lappy that I bought for $24.95 at Aldi and they sound superb. I don't even know what brand they are.

Sound is such an illusive thing, you can get one effect with these monsters pounding your chest and parting your hair and yet I also love the way my tiny Bose earphones seem to soak my brain in music and no one around me even knows the bliss I'm in.....
At any rate, I'm happy as shit with my new hobby, as if I need another. The Pioneer was just to test the speakers, too many knobs and dials and sliders and shit for me. I wanna new receiver to be able to control these bad boys with a click of a mouse to play my new digital music collection. It's my next shopping project and I've already decided this Pioneer is overkill - I'm sweating and my head hurts........

This is my only sound system at present It's got 10GB of its 20GB capacity filled with music,is about ten years old and goes everywhere with me. When I want to listen to music at home I jack it or Youtube into a pair of Sony SRS-A205 speakers. I only really listen to loud music at parties and gigs.

I've got a decent system at home with JBL speakers and stereo components, including a 25 disc CD changer that hasn't been used in months. The system is hooked up to the flat screen and an old XP PC that I got for around a $100. It has all my music on it, and is more convenient than the CD player. But really, I spend most of my music time listening to Pandora, which has turned me on to so much good music lately. The only thing I don't like is the "Pandora fatigue" which comes when a given station starts playing the same stuff over and over. But that's okay, it's easy enough create a new station. When exercising I listen to an ipod, which now sounds pretty good after I got some high-end sony ear buds on clearance. Half the time it's music, the other half is podcasts. Radiolab, Hardcore History and TED talks are my favorites. Got a new car back in November and it came with a 1 year subscription to XFM satellite radio. I will probably renew it in a year since it is so much better than the local radio stations around here (only thing worth listening to is NPR). For volume, I don't care for super loud. As long as I can be fully immersed in the sound I am happy, and usually it's dead quiet around here so it doesn't take much. If you're looking for something to play LOUD then I would recommend Skinny Puppy's Too Dark Park album. That is if you like early 90s industrial - www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZv8DEwwj9M

Almost anything by... AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Ozzie, The Violent Femmes, The Ramones, The Stones, Aerosmith (early stuff, Toys in the Attic, etc..), The Kinks, Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, KISS, RUSH, Judas Priest, Motorhead, The Clash. Then you can get into some of the newer stuff, Iron Maiden, Def Leperd, Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Jane's Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, My personal favorite Godsmack (their Bad Religion and Serenity are two of my alltime favorites). And there you have my play it so loud the windows shake and the neighbors call the cops on the crazy white bitch next door playlist

I've got a Sherwood Digi-Linc 400 Watt Receiver / Amp with a phono stage, hooked up to a pair of Mk2 Technic 1210s, and an old JB Systems 6 channel mixer, with a pair of Bi-wired Mission speakers. Sweet.

Decided to go with a simple stereo amp, a vintage 1974 Marantz 16b (100 watt x 2) to drive the big LaScala's. I sure don't need that much power in my living room but it's got the horsepower the speakers were designed for. But instead of a receiver, tuner, preamp, I've decided to let my computer and this new ASUS Xonar card do the work. www.asus.com/Multimedia/Audio_Cards/Xonar_Essence_STX/#specificationsWhile waiting for my new toys to arrive, I'm refinishing the speaker cabinets, making new grills and and putting the 150 pound monsters on casters so I can roll them outside for parties.

I've just got a cheapo radio with 2 speakers. Never listen to anything loud anymore, rarely ever turn the thing on even.
Guess I prefer the birds and the wind in the trees these days.

I mostly listen to my music in my car or on the computer. It does the trick for me.
