I like spiders too. I'm especially partial to wolf spiders.

Spiders are not "cool critters" they are evil terrible creatures which should be destroyed with fire. That gives me a sad, spiders and their kin are THE coolest of critters. Fear of them is always irrational.

That's ok, I have no problem being irrationally afraid of something the size of a dinner plate that can go into cracks my fingernails won't fit in.

Pretty, that's a Golden Orb Weaver(Nephila Sp),we don't get orb weavers like that here. As big as they are, they're completely harmless.

We call them Banana Spiders.
I have seen them as large as dinner plates, kind of like the tarantulas out west.

I love Orb spiders. There are so many varieties of them. I've got a couple of beauties - golden orbs - who've taken up residence between the support struts of the carport since The Scunt departed and he's no longer driving in and out of it, breaking their homes. That Orb shaped web is in terms of weight for load bearing capacity the strongest structure known. NASA was for a long time looking at basing all future space station construction on it. As a matter of fact, the last space shuttle that crashed had a collection of Australian Golden Orbs on it. They had been raised by a class of Victorian school children and taken on the mission to examine how the structure stood up in zero gravity. The Orb Web A St Andrews Cross Spider A Golden Orb:

While we're on the subject of spiders, check this shit out. These are pictures of the Spider crab, they are the largest crabs in the world. And cool as all fuck. It has the largest leg span of any arthropod, reaching up to 12 ft.

They also taste nicer than normal edible crabs.
