This really is an attack on the ability of citizens to defend themselves. Not against a robber or a mugger so much as against their own governments. It is far from being just the US this is aimed at. Let's keep in mind it is thr WORLD Treaty on Small Arms. Face facts. In the past century as the linked article points out, more civilians have died at the hands of their own rulers than have been the victims of crime or casualties in a war of aggression. Mao, Stalin, Peron, Marcos, that cunt in Brazil, (forgot his name) the junta in Argentina, Pinochet - It IS a step in the inexorable journey to oppress and subjugate and enslave us all. When we no longer have the means to rebel they can dio as they please and shoot us down in the streets as we bleat. Seriously. Liberal gun control advocates need to put aside a life time of prejudice and propaganda about "what kind of person owns a gun" and start hoping like hell they haven't left it all too late to wake up to what is happening here. I live in a country in which private gun ownership has been all but eradicated and since that happened I have watched as freedom after freedom has been taken from us in bits and pieces and special legislation and wars on bike gangs and I am here to tell you - do NOT allow it to happen in your country. I seems that signing this treaty will indeed over ride the right of states to make gun laws. It's a major blow - another one to both the Second AND the Tenth Amendments. eta: Forgot me link www.thedailybell.com/2843/Adrian-Krieg-The-Proposed-UN-Small-Arms-Treaty-pushed-by-Hillary-Clintonexactly. if you read the federalist papers, written by the founders of the constitution and should be read alongside the constitution, it says exactly that. gives the civilians a chance to defend themselves against the government, same way they did. although really, we couldn't defend ourselves even if we tried what with all the technology the military has. we'll just have to rely on the hope that our servicemen and women won't turn their weapons on the people they're sworn to protect.

I keep trying to point out to people - this is a WORLD Treaty on small arms - and it is very much aimed at taking the ability of people all over the world to legally acquire weapons. As I demonstrated in the Cornell University study of The Patriot Act vs The Constitution - all that needs to be done to screw with the Second Amendment is for another clause to be added into The PA which subverts it. It's an initiative which is easily dressed up as an attempt to control the international arms trade's crimes - but its net effect when most nations have signed it will be to make it a hell of a lot more difficult for many private citizens all over the globe to get their hands on a gun. As for an American's right to bear arms - They've taken Habeas Corpus off you through the Patriot Act - you think they won't be able to take your Luger too?

Well, I don't think there's much Americans will fight for, but I can pretty much guarantee they will come out of the woodwork to keep their guns.

One can only hope! I am serious though about this loss of freedoms which comes with the loss of a citizen's right to arm themselves. Britain and Australia are prime examples. Two of the most regulated populations on earth - and arguably the two where guns are most stringently withheld from the populace at large. I would also note that since legal gun ownership has been all but eradicated in this country the incidence of gun crime has increased massively and the trade in illegal firearms which was negligible 10 years ago is now one of our major criminal growth areas. I had a bikie boyfriend years ago who said to me "I'll give up my guns when the fucking government give up theirs. Because they're the cunts I'm most afraid of coming after me" I didn't really understand his point of view at the time, but I am increasingly coming to realise that he saw things very clearly far sooner than I.

We have, here in the US, stopped paying attention. The government say "YOU NEED THIS" and the majority says "More kool-aid please".
We are just, as a people, too trusting of our government. So many want to put the blame on this president or that president however, it does not change the fact that we didn't stop them when they stole our rights and freedoms. We just drank the kool-aid.

Yep. The Romans used bread and circuses to placate the populace and distract them from anger at incompetence and corruption in the halls of power - our lot use Hamburgers and Reality TV - same shit - different arseholes though, innit?

Remember when big Brother used to be considered a bad thing? And then there was Jersey Shore and suddenly BB is looking like "the Good Old Days" innit? lol In fact I have never seen an episode of either. If I want to listen to drunken fuckwits drone on about their tediously seedy love lives and body dysmorphia all I need to do is pop into my local - where at least I can access the bar to make it all more bearable.

We used to watch Big Brother, the kids sometimes watch it. I know my niece says they have a drinking game associated with it these days. We used to do shots every time Randy said DOG, Simon was snarky or Paula drunkenly clapped her hands on American Idol. It was a sure way to be shit faced in the hour Oh wait.....

Have no fear we will fight for our guns. If they try to take mine, I'll shoot first.

Here in New Mexico you can wear guns all day. Many businesses even allow them to be worn inside.

Hey, I just remembered: there used to be a gun toting pastor who got his flock to open carry in church as a sign to the lawd that they was using their god given right to cap a mofo... lookin for link. We had a lot of fun with that one in R&S. brb
