I knew that everyone will all have to be goosestepping into line soon the signs where there.

Everyone knows that the soldiers (especially those involved in actual combat) are coming back messed up and find it difficult to integrate back into society. Would be nice if they provided all that help and support as soon as they came home and not wait until they commit a crime. Is patriotism still strong over there? Very much so. Especially in the south. |

they are being framed as the new "terrorist" threat... just as we are all classified as potential terrorists now
anybody who comes back disillusioned and not believing the propaganda any more will be considered a terrorist threat

Hmmmm shades of Vietnam ITT.....
This isn't the first time this has happened, they treated our soldiers coming home from Vietnam just as bad if not worse.
This country does not appreciate their armed forces as much as they should. The soldiers aren't the ones deciding where to go and who to shoot 98% of the time. Of course there are fanantics in every group who make the entire thing look bad, but in all seriousness, soldiers ultimately answer to the Joint Chiefs who treat them as disposable.
The sad part is many of the officers on the Joint Chiefs were once soldiers themselves, granted, they were officers from the get go but still, some of them saw actual combat.
We should have learned from our past mistakes, but we never do.

This, like our education system, is our new (or not so new) stopgap measure. Instead of PREVENTATIVE measures, we just put everyone in a concrete-n-steel box. To rot.
Why treat the disease when you can just quarantine them?
Prison's big bidness these days--you make a serious buckola off of imprisoning the sick, malcontent and disenfranchised.
Why are the soldiers to be treated any differently?

Just for giggles do a search on the number of homeless vets. I've done that before - to prove a point to some idiot at TCC. It's not lulzy at all in fact - it made me cry. About 15-20% % of homeless people are ex military people...but they are many times more likely to die on the streets than other homeless people. Like four or five times as likely. The fucking cunts...the stinking lousy fucking cunts who take these kids and tell then its all glorious and patriotism is good -they they'll fight for freedom and democracy and the virginity of their sisters.... and then throw them away when they're damaged like they were a marvel comics action figure that doesn't do its thing any more. I hate them...I hate them so cunting much. |

I think it's like hazing, in a way, and it takes GENERATIONS to get rid of this kind of mentality. The "stiff upper lip, wot wot" sort of schtick that "real men" don't need mental assistance with the atrocities they've suffered (albeit voluntarily) at the hands of their government. Just because military men of the past have battled their way through war and come home and battled their ghosts of war silently, doesn't mean THIS generation's soldier needs to. It's a logical fallacy that is perpetuated by the establishment that runs the military complex machinery.
AND THEN--AND THEN these folks are ENCOURAGED to go out on their own to sign up with Blackwater, etc., and do MORE warring about for some real money. What do you think THOSE folks are like on the inside? Not pretty. Not anyone I would want to hang with when push comes to shove.
ANYWAY...it's a true tragedy, but it's not so easily overturned and made right, either, with the current military culture we have at the tip top of the organization. I'm hoping that's changing soon enough...but then you can hope in one hand, shit in the other...etc.

You can't have a war without horrors and psychological trauma results from horrors. They dehumanise them deliberately in the training so that they will be able to do the appalling things necessary in a war.
We have to stop having the bloody wars. Seriously. I know I get accused of being naive all the time but we have to raise our kids to know to say NO.....no I will not kill for your glory and your riches.
What if they held a war and nobody came?
My Grandmother had her brother die in WWI. He was 19 and had got back from Gallipoli wounded.. He was patched up and sent to France, where he died defending Fromelles. He is buried there.
I inherited her autograph books and diaries and on the day she took him to the troop train she came home and wrote in her diary.
"Why should my brother have to go and kill some German girl's brother, just so that kings on both sides can grow richer?".
She was 14 in 1916 - but she knew that.
I told you she could see things didn't I?

This is the blog of a friend of mine of many years standing. We (well many of us here) went through much of this debacle with her. Everyone needs to read what she has to say about the military and its response to even serving troops let alone Vets, when they have a health crisis.
