So I ran into this the other day... I thought it was a cool story, haven't really read anything beyond this post: www.alphagalileo.org/ViewItem.aspx?ItemId=119223&CultureCode=enIt reads that scientist are close to imitating natural photosynthesis and that this breakthrough could improve renewable energy sources.... definitely worth a quick read...

Call me a cynic (actually don't because I'm very temperamental and vindictive) but you have to wonder why develop a photosynthesizer as efficient as Chlorophyl when you already have Chlorophyl. I suspect that Chorophyl is inconveniently cheap, universally available and unpatentable.
