Aw, I missed this yesterday! Thanks, Babes--I was heading back from the Sierra Nevadas on my birfday, but I called my folks and they met us back at my house with dinner. So it was special after all.

Sophie is colicky--but I hear tell it's a short-lived phenomenon...here's to hoping...the little dear is really starting to troll her parents something fierce...

Ugh, colick, that sucks. If you're breast feeding try cutting all dairy products out of your diet. She eats what you eat, lactose intolerance can be a major factor in colicky babies. You can get D vitamins and calcium from dark leafy green veggies, nuts, various beans and sunshine. Nice to see you around, however briefly.

Thanks--I don't eat much dairy...bit of yogurt here and there, a bit of milk...very little cheese. I am not sure what it is that is getting her other than baby rage at not being in the womb any longer, lol. But she's getting through it ok--just a couple of hours a day. It's just tiring. She's also sleeping sooo much better. Not up and down a lot like she was a month ago. Can't believe she's 5 weeks old already!

Yoghurt's fine. The lactobacillus eats up all the lactose. But cutting out the cheese and milk might be a good idea. My son was shockingly collicky and I also found that a warm bath and a gentle tummy rub eased him off a lot when he was yelling.
Poor wee lambs. Being in the belly was so easy by comparison, wannit??

Yeah, they tend to just want to be held a lot sometimes with colic, so I bought a sling, but it's so damned hot, the baby's sweltering in there! Even nakies!
We wrap her tight in her blanket and she relaxes then enough to sleep, we call it "burrito-ing the baby," but she's so damned colicky that she's either crying, eating or sleeping. Very little in between. Tis a sad time to be around her right now, lol.

Oh I wrapped mine like mummies. In summer you can still do it if you use the lovely muslin wrappers and make sure she's got a coolish room to sleep in. Poor little things wave their arms around, scratch their faces, feel all insecure, if they're just left to flail and then people wonder why they dont sleep more than 30 mins at a stretch. I've got a great Kenyan friend and she taught me how to tie a sling round your back, so they sit on your bum. (I have the arse for it...kinda sticky outey. ). It keeps both you and bub cooler and leaves you free to do a lot more than the front wearing slings do. Or you can get backpack kind of things to wear which gives them the closeness to you and still leaves you able to get a load in the machine without banging their brains out on the rim. And the baby massages - you dont need any tech knowledge. Just some nice olive oil and a quiet room. They love it. I love the feel of their skin...they love the feel of yours. And start her swimming now too. Mine were water babies . I think that floating - it reminds them of the 9 months they spent in the amniotic fluid. They always slept like logs after a swim. Hang on I shall go look see if I can find some of the slings/packs I mean. (we need new pics btw...I bet she looks totally different now)

Oh good grief I love the internet. This is a great demo of how to tie the cloth for back carrying. They need pretty good neck control for it to be safe, so maybe start with it when she's about 8 weeks. www.instructables.com/id/How-to-carry-your-baby-African-style/Lots of tummy time will help her develop that neck control and tummy time also helps the colic, as it pushes the wind out the way the good goddess meant it to go.

Freakin' cool! I'd love the pool idea, but no pool to take her to--the YMCA pool is toooooo chlorinated...even for me. Ugh. But that wrap--love that!
