If someone from another country comes in and gets pulled over for a law and they say "I'm sorry officer, I didn't know that was the law", is the driver then only issued a warning?
Here in Georgia, we have the "Move Over Law", if there is an officer WITH lights ON sitting on the side of the road, you are expected and required to move over if safe. A lady from Ontario called in to say she was given a ticket for this and was surprised about it because she didn't know the law. Common sense would suggest that if there are 4 officers with their bright blue lights flashing on the side of the road, that you should get out of their way. Even if it was raining so hard that you can't see..........

I would think,{I'm not Canadian}, that it's the same as here, a law is a law whether you know about it or not. Besides, how dumb can she be? There are signs along all 4 lane highways that say "move over for emergency or official vehicles". Of course there are also signs that say " keep right except to pass", but there is always some dipshit going along at 5 mph under the speed limit in the passing lane. Drives me up the walls, I drive a fast car, I didn't buy it so I could drive like Granny Fanny Applebee!

Victoria makes a motza off unsuspecting through traffic from interstate. They have road rules there that I swear were written by the inmates of bedlam. For instance: You do not indicate if changing lanes - wtf? If you try to indicate when changing lanes you'll be roundly abused by all road users and fined by any passing pigwagon. They also have tollways every 15 mins along most routes, Which tollways are relatively unsignaged on the approaches to them and all of which require you to have en e-tag which is electronically debited when you cross the entry point. A car which does not have this (Victorian residents only) e-tag will be photographed as it enters the tollway and a fine dispatched in the mail. Finding an alternate route to the tollway, even when you know of its existence can be akin to taking a detour from The Bronx to Brooklyn via Chicago. Our last trip to Victoria garnered us a total of $175 in such fines. I can't help thinking, there's a little systemic corruption happening there.

Then she went on a rant about it's common knowledge that Georgia police ad Canadians don't get along. She never believed it, but now she does. WTF??? Since when is there a major war going on between Ga and Canada??? There's what, a thousand miles between the two.....HOW?? Something about Ga police discriminating against Canadian drivers. Then she said she wasn't going to come for her court date because she lives in Canada, but wanted the charges taken off. I don't know a lot of Canadians personally, except what I've heard on here and TCC, but this lady from Ontario seems coo-coo.........or at least misinformed.

LOL, the laws in Canada and the States are almost written with the same pen. Thing is, most drivers from Ontario think they're special. They can and do very weird stuff and never get ticketed for it. Like passing on a double solid line, on corners, in tunnels, play ground zones.......
See Ontario is our Texas. Very big with almost no cops. Because people get away with stuff, they get ta think'n they can do it anyplace.
And if she was from Toronto.....well that's our New York.....people generally very rude and have a permanent air of entitlement.

We try to keep them in Quebec, but some of them leak out.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse and that is fairly universal.
Well, I know it is here in the US, and a few other places I may or may not have had a slight interaction with law enforcement.....

We don't have law enforcement unless someone gets murdered. Then it takes them awhile to get here. Why should they hurry they're dead.
