I miss the wackos in Boulder, I lived on Pearl street for one semester in 71. Oh, it's even "wackier" now! The place is full of money, tree huggers that call themselves "pet parents", college students and the required "street people". It's quite an experience, going in to Boulder. If you don't drive a compact car it's damned near impossible to find a place to park. The traffic is horrific, Crossroads Mall is long gone, there's an "outdoor shopping experience/mall" there now, totally high end. Sunflower Markets and Whole Foods Markets. Fire Dancers, Buskers and Jugglers on Pearl Street Mall. Homeless people and "homeless" beggars, panhandlers, magicians. It's wild in Boulder. You are not your pet dog or cat's owner in the city of Boulder, you are their guardian! Every 3 year old goes around with pink or purple streaks in their hair and pierced ears, but, it's illegal to dye your dog. It's all high end yuppies or hemp and natural cotton green partyers. Crazy place. For the rest of you, Boulder Colorado is where Stephen King gathered all his characters in The Stand. The Stanley Hotel, the setting for The Shining, is in Boulder County and Mork and Mindy was filmed and set in Boulder. Boulder County has a strange vibe, the place draws odd, progressive, eclectic, eccentric people.

This is an aerial view of Colorado University, in Boulder, one of the most beautiful University campuses in the world. The distinctive mountains in the distance are The Flatirons, they've been a climbing mecca for dozens of years. They are closed to climbers now in the late spring till mid summer because Peregrine Falcons nest and raise their clutches on them. If you climb the East Face you can hike down the back side right down to the road and catch a ride back around to the front. ***ADMIN MODE*** Edited to reduce image size - TMH 6/27/12

In Kings "The Stand", do you remember the house the 'stinky lady' lived in? That was MY house. King described it so well he must have visited it doing his research. When I read the book, my skin crawled for weeks - too weird.
When I first visited Boulder in 69 LSD was still legal in CO and there were vendors hawking it on street corners with other drugs. The Black Stallion in Estes used to serve "electric chili".
I've climbed and repelled the first three Flat Irons.
Is "Art's Bar and Grill" still going? It was owned by Columbia Records and all their artists would hang out when they were in town. Saw great groups for a $2 cover and $1 pitchers of 3.2 Coors. Good times.

It's not a bar any more, it's a bed and breakfast, as far as I can tell. The original liquor license for that place was signed by Teddy Roosevelt, it was a stage stop, a bordello, a recording studio/bar and grill, a high end restaurant and now a bed and breakfast.
