Have you ever watched The Alligator Hunterers on the History Channel on tv. These hunters are from the Luisiana's Bayoo. They are crazy but fun to watch. If you've watched give me you're impression. ;D

They don't know any other way and are making damn good money for where they live and the general education level involved.
Someone who shall remain nameless used to go out with guys on airboats, back when running gator hides was illegal.

Oh yeah I've seen that show. They're a lot like the wildmen from up north here - the Top End - not a lot of book learnin' but smart enough to keep their hides in tact when they're wrestling with big critters like alligators and crocs - so not too dumb for all that they may lack a few teeth. Though one of them is a right eff-wit and keeps shooting his son when he misses the alligators. Ricochets mostly when he doesn't get the soft spot in the skull - and fuck does his missus get pissed off with him for it too!

It's called Swamp People here and I actually think the voice over is really offensively condescending - they seem to go out of their way to make the people look like retards - I stopped watching because of that in fact - it made me shout at the tele and that pisses the kids off.
LMAO

just to tell you, it's not quite that exciting. the stuff they show you on t.v. happens once in awhile. really it's more like shooting fish in a barrel than the craziness they show you on that show. but they're a protected species. i wish they weren't because they're freaking delicious and are plentiful by my friends fishing camp.

They raise gators for food here in Idaho. They keep them in hot springs since obviously too cold otherwise. I've tasted it deep fried and cajun-seasoned. Tasty!

We should swap gator/croc recipes - they're farmed extensively here, are crocs.
Big buggers.

I read once years ago that there were still entire families in the swamps in Louisiana that never had so much as a birth certificate or any other official form of identification. They never left the swamps. I always wondered how true that was.
I know down in Florida there are groups of people who live in the Everglades and only meet up with people when they hit the store on the reservation for the basics, otherwise they live thier lives out in the swamps. You come across them every once in a while fishing or hunting. They aren't entire families though and you ver very rarely see a child.
Something I have always been curious about.

Gator and tomatos go together so well it's scary. My mom's favorite gator recipe (besides fried) was pan seared, then you simmer it in tomato you've cooked up with a little new squash and onion. MMMmmmmm

Treat it like lobster or crab and you cant go wrong as its way harder to fuck up than they are...takes a shit load more cooking...pan seared with a little brandy to deglaze and herbs...yummo--break it up over a green salad.
