I am so looking forward to Dark Shadows, the movie.
What? It was the only soap I ever watched.

Have you seen the trailer? I hope to god that what the cast has been saying is true and the trailer is not how the movie actually is. Because that trailer is an utter disappointment.
When you see it let me know, will ya?

I shudder every time Hollywood get their hands on anything decent. I am occasionally pleasantly surprised - but it's as rare as rocking horse shit that it happens.

But it's Tim Burton.

Which is why it's worth seeing on the big screen. Even if Tim doesn't make a great movie, they're always visually interesting.

I don't care if it's Tim Burton. I care more about how the characters are being portrayed. And I just don't see them being portrayed faithfully in the trailer. It looks like they made it into a comedy

It looks like they made it into a comedy Most Tim Burton things are Black Comedies. Movies like these are more "based off" or "Inspired by" then adaptations. It's the directors view of what he thought it should be like. Bladerunner is a good example. What would be the point of making a film if it was exactly like the show? Though I'll admit I hate it when someone makes a film about a game, TV show or book and change the characters and the story. It then becomes something else. Infact, I don't know why they bother buying the rights to the thing in the first place if they're just going to make a completely different film.

Infact, I don't know why they bother buying the rights to the thing in the first place if they're just going to make a completely different film. I wouldn't mind it so much if they had been telling people that it was an inspired by or whatever. But they keep saying that it is faithful to the old shows and fans would be happy. From what I've heard the general consensus from seeing the trailer is that was an outright lie. For one, Barnabus had much more class than is shown in the trailer (he would never have told someone to kiss his ass or let on that a tv looked like witchcraft to him) Two, he never told the Collins family that he was a vampire. Very, very few people knew that and it was a great effort to keep it that way. And this is just a couple things I got from the trailer. I can't even believe when the original cast say that the trailer isn't how the movie goes because they probably hadn't even seen the script when shooting their cameos (I know for a fact Frid didn't, so it's likely others as well) Ok, think that's enough of my little ranting. I'm not even awake yet.

See now I haven't seen or ready anything that claimed it was faithful to the original. You have to think, anytime you get Johnny Depp and Elizabeth Bonhomme-Carter together hilarity will ensue.
I think to bring the show into this era quite a few changes will have to be expected.
I always thought the original was a bit campy anyway. So if this ends up being funny all the better.

I guess I just haven't seen enough of their movies. I was hoping that it would keep to the more serious.
I never thought of it as campy, but then I never thought of the original Trek to be campy either and some do *shrugs*

I read a review on it from Slate, that the original is really just a "plan" they're following with the characters but Burton's definitely not held true to the original "dramatic" soap operatic quality of the series. He did make it into a campy, comedic film, rather than a serious take on the tragedy that is Barnabus's unrequited love. *shrug* My mom was into the series when she was younger, and though I'm interested in the original, I never got the chance to watch it. Hopefully the Chiller channel will bring it back. They had it for a while. That's where I started watching "American Gothic" reruns...those were mighty delicious and could stand a shaking out and redoing, too.

Have you seen it yet, Hatter? I've watched this review and read some others. I has a sad, though it was expected.
