I'm a bit of an inveterate petition signer. I don't know if anyone else is, but it's a way we can be heard, even of we're not heeded, innit?
Anything that pisses the man off is worthwhile pausing for IMHO.And the man hates petitions. They have to be tabled in parliament and presented to the UN and shit. Takes precious time out of their cocktail bar and pricey hooker schedule to attend to the fuckers.
So from time to time ITT I will be posting a few documents you may like to peruse and put your moniker on - or tell me I've got me head up me arse - or you know - report me to the Feds as a dangerous subversive.
It's all free to be who you are here, eh?
ETA: Obviously feel free to post any and all petitions vlose to your own heart. Just dont get all :butthurt:
If no one signs them. lol...I know I won't be phased by being utterly ignored.
Never have been yet!!
So the first will be from Avaaz.org about some very Draconian Birth Control legislation which will see, if passed women in Honduras even children and teens who have been raped gaoled for taking the Morning After Pill.
I'm just a bit over the war on women worldwide really.

Dear friends, The Honduran Congress is about to vote on a proposal that would send women to jail if they use the morning-after pill -- even for victims of sexual assault. But the President of the Congress can stop this. He's concerned about his international image and his future in politics, so our massive outcry can shame him and stop this attack on women. Click here to sign the petition: Honduras is just days away from approving an extremist law that would put teenagers in prison for using the morning-after pill, even if they've just been raped. But we can stop this law and ensure women have the chance to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Some Congress members agree that this law -- which would also jail doctors or anyone who sells the pill -- is excessive, but they are bowing to the powerful religious lobby that wrongly claims the morning-after pill constitutes an abortion. Only the head of the Congress, who wants to run for the Presidency and cares about his reputation abroad, can stop this. If we pressure him now we can shelve this reactionary law. The vote could happen any day -- let’s show Honduras that the world won't stand by as it jails women for preventing pregnancy even after sexual violence. Sign the urgent petition calling on the President of the Honduran Congress to stand up for women’s rights. Avaaz will work with local women's groups to personally deliver our outcry: www.avaaz.org/en/no_prison_for_contraception_global/?vl A few countries, including Honduras, have banned the emergency contraceptive pill, which delays ovulation and prevents pregnancy -- like ordinary birth control pills. But if this new bill passes, Honduras will be the only state in the world to punish the use or sale of emergency contraception with a jail term. Anyone -- teenagers, rape victims, doctors -- convicted of selling or using the morning-after pill could end up behind bars, in flagrant contravention of World Health Organisation guidelines. Latin America already has too many tough laws which restrict women's reproductive rights. The Honduras Congress first passed this draconian measure in April 2009, but just a month later then-President José Manuel Zelaya bowed to pressure from campaigners and vetoed it. Then Zelaya was removed in a coup, and the new regime has taken a sledgehammer to the country's judicial processes and forced the bill back to a vote. Time is short, but we can stop this awful proposal in its tracks. Congress has the final vote on the matter and the government doesn't want to risk its already fragile global reputation. Let's tell the President of the Congress not to make Honduras the region's most repressive country against women. Sign this urgent petition now: www.avaaz.org/en/no_prison_for_contraception_global/?vl Emergency contraception is vital for women everywhere, but especially where sexual violence against women is rampant, unplanned pregnancy rates are high and access to regular birth control is limited. Let’s stand with the women of Honduras and help them stop this bill. Now you can start your own online petition any time and on any topic - weewillybear if you troll these people I shall set Eris on your arse. Dear friends, Today, Avaaz could expand its campaign team from 40 to 40,000! We all care about many issues – decisions by government and by companies, in our local communities and abroad. Now new tools make it easy for any of us to launch a petition so other Avaaz members can raise their voices and win more campaigns! Today is a big day for Avaaz. If you join in, Avaaz might just move from having a small team of 40 campaigners to having 40,000!! When I started Avaaz, it was just a crazy idea. But I loved the idea, and shared it, and now it's an idea that 14,000,000 people share! I've been blown away by the passion, creativity, smarts and commitment of everyone in this community. Every day Avaaz members send in brilliant and important ideas for new campaigns to create the world we all want -- more than our small staff could ever carry out alone. So, to unlock all the incredible potential of our community to change the world, we've developed our website tools to allow any Avaazer to instantly start their *own* online petitions, tell friends, and win campaigns. The site just went live -- will you give it a try? Think of a petition you'd like to start on any issue -- something impacting your local community, some bad behaviour by a distant corporation, or a global cause that you think other Avaaz members would care about. If your petition takes off, it may become an Avaaz campaign -- either to members in your area, or even to the whole world! Click here to get started -- it takes just a few minutes to create your own campaign! www.avaaz.org/en/petition/start_a_petition/?vl I'm so excited about this. In just five years, Avaaz has run an incredible number of hard-hitting campaigns and grown to be the largest-ever global movement for change, all with just a tiny staff -- imagine what's possible with all of us starting and winning amazing campaigns! I can't wait. With much respect and hope, Ricken Ah goddess bless me little activist soul - Ima drive you people batty with shit like this and Occupy demonstrations and opportunities to chain oneself to trees and fling oneself in front of bulldozers and logging trucks. Ah - **good times** .

I hate it when folks say petitions don't work. Yes, they do. You just have to be savvy about the ones you use and how they are used. And who sees them. Using the media to your advantage here is also key.
I know that when you call your legislative rep here in CA, they make tick marks in the columns for "this person is FOR X initiative" and "this person is against." They do count who is for what--and that can make a difference. In point of fact, ballot initiatives are STARTED just by getting signatures! So are referendums to recall those assholes like the Wisconsin governator from office!
Good on you, Storm! Bring on the petitions...

Cool site. I just signed the one for "no Prison..." But do they really allow any petition? Cuz I'm thinking of writing one to get the members of Westboro Baptist deported to Australia. ;D Oh send the buggers over. They start telling Australians why we're all fucked and they'll be tied to a statue of Ned Kelly and pelted with pavlova till they shut it. You think Americans are arrogant and unable to take criticism from outsiders? LMFAO...you got NOTHING on us mate! I hate it when folks say petitions don't work. Yes, they do. You just have to be savvy about the ones you use and how they are used. And who sees them. Using the media to your advantage here is also key. Two school girls got The Cure to tour Australia in 1995 with 260,000 signatures on a "We need A Cure Tour" petition for a start! lol But yeah I know what you mean....bums on seats, placards on the street and signatures on a petition are some the only things a politician will pause on the way to the Parliamentary Dining Room to look at. They see their pension funds and Lobbyist Handouts pass before their eyes when they realise they might just be backing the wrong horse in the Popularity Stakes.

I have a thing about bees. In my dream life I am a bee-keeper - native bees, raised on red gum blossom nectar on the banks of the Lachlan River. So save the bees, please....or my dreams are doomed to crash and burn: Dear friends, Pesticides are killing bees and threatening our food supply. In 24 hours, shareholders at the biggest chemical producer, Bayer, could vote to stop their toxic production. Massive public pressure has forced this debate at their Annual General Meeting, now let’s make sure they vote to stop the pesticides and save the bees. Sign the emergency petition: Quietly, globally, billions of bees are dying, threatening our crops and food. But if Bayer stops selling one group of pesticides, we could save bees from extinction. Four European countries have begun banning these poisons, and some bee populations are already recovering. But Bayer, the largest producer of neonicotinoids, has lobbied hard to keep them on the market. Now, massive global pressure from Avaaz and others has forced them to consider the facts -- and in 24 hours, Bayer shareholders will vote on a motion that could stop these toxic chemicals. Let’s all act now and shame the shareholders to stop killing bees. The pressure is working, and this is our best chance to save the bees. Sign the urgent petition and send this to everyone -- let's reach half a million signers and deliver it directly to shareholders tomorrow in Germany! www.avaaz.org/en/bayer_save_the_bees/?vlBees don't just make honey, they are vital to life on earth, every year pollinating 90% of plants and crops -- with an estimated $40bn value, over one-third of the food supply in many countries. Without immediate action to save bees, many of our favourite fruits, vegetables, and nuts could vanish from our shelves. Recent years have seen a steep and disturbing global decline in bee populations -- some bee species are already extinct and some US species are at just 4% of their previous numbers. Scientists have been scrambling for answers. Some studies claim the decline may be due to a combination of factors including disease, habitat loss and toxic chemicals. But increasingly, independent research has produced strong evidence blaming neonicotinoid pesticides. France, Italy, Slovenia and even Germany, where the main manufacturer Bayer is based, have banned one of these bee killers. But, Bayer continues to export its poison across the world. This issue is now coming to the boil as major new studies have confirmed the scale of this problem. If we can get Bayer shareholders to act, we could shut down once and for all Bayer’s influence on policy-makers and scientists. The real experts -- the beekeepers and farmers -- want these deadly pesticides prohibited until and unless we have solid, independent studies that show they are safe. Let's support them now. This one isn't a petition per se. It's a request for a letter writing campaign to the Burmese Military Junta (do they call then juntas in Asia? I dunno - anyway those cunts) for the release of political prisoners. You can also drop a line of support to the featured prisoner on this page himself, which if he receives them would probably be a very heartening for him. www.burmacampaign.org.uk/index.php/campaigns/actions/free-political-prisoners/no-political-prisoner-left-behindThe prisoner's name is Thant Zaw (aka) He is one of hundreds of political prisoners in Burma. His crime? He was a member of the NLD (National League for Democracy). An overtly pacifist organisation. His sentence? 30 years. He has been incarcerated since 1989.

When I first signed up for Avaaz email alerts 4-5 years ago there were only about 10 thousand members, now there's almost 15 million. That's amazing growth. I don't sign every petition, some aren't very well thought out.

We have half a dozen Aussies on here now. Get this one up ya then: Dear friends across Australia, There is evidence that Lachlan Murdoch might be breaking our laws and endangering our democracy. If tens of thousands of us add our names to a formal Avaaz complaint to be submitted to our media regulator today, we can build an unstoppable call for a full investigation of the Murdoch's media monopolisation. Sign now: Today, Avaaz will argue in front of our media regulator that Lachlan Murdoch is likely breaking the law. If tens of thousands of us urgently support the complaint now, we can build public pressure and win a formal investigation. The Murdoch family controls 70% of Australia's newspapers, as well as significantly influencing a network of radio stations, Network Ten and Foxtel. For over 20 years, our laws have prohibited cross-media ownership that looks very similar to this, but government after government has failed to curb their monopolisation of our media. Now, experts have helped us dig into years of regulations and precedent to produce a strong complaint that shows how Lachlan Murdoch could be illegally dominating our media. This complaint will call for an investigation and firm action to bring any and all illegal activity to an end. Let’s all add our names to this historic, democracy-defining complaint -- and encourage others to do the same -- so the Australian Communication and Media Authority will have to act to enforce our laws. We’ll deliver it to ACMA at its meeting later today: www.avaaz.org/en/australia_investigate_lachlan_murdoch/?vl Australian law prohibits a “three way ownership situation”, where one person controls radio, newspaper and television properties all in one market. After years of rollbacks on protections for independent media, this law is our last defence against total monopolisation of our local media. We're campaigning to strengthen these laws, but we should also call out media moguls who are breaking them right now. ACMA already recognises Lachlan’s controlling stake in Australian radio and TV stations -- he’s the Chairman of both Network Ten and DMG Radio Australia -- but not any newspapers. Avaaz argues that Lachlan’s position on the Board of Directors at News Corp, his close cooperation with his father Rupert and the 40% ownership stake that his family holds in the company illegally constitute a controlling stake in News Limited -- its Australian newspaper arm where Lachlan formerly served as deputy CEO. ACMA has never clarified what constitutes control -- and it isn’t used to public scrutiny. If thousands of Australians add our names to this complaint and drag ACMA into the limelight, it will have to enforce our laws against media monopolisation. Click the link below to add your signature to the complaint before we submit it to ACMA: www.avaaz.org/en/australia_investigate_lachlan_murdoch/?vl Step by step, Avaaz members have pushed forward the case for media reform in Australia. We're getting results. Let’s now take the next step to enforce, then improve our laws and our democracy. With hope, Alex, Brant, Paul, Michelle, Alice and the rest of the Avaaz team SOURCES Read the full Avaaz Complaint to ACMA http://avaaz_images.s3.amazonaws.com/ACMAletter.pdf Why ACMA should force Lachlan Murdoch off News Corp Board (Crikey) www.crikey.com.au/2011/02/24/why-acma-should-force-lachlan-murdoch-off-news-corp-board/ The Unacceptable 3-way control Situation (Broadcasting Services Act) www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_act/bsa1992214/s61aea.html Lachlan in the wings as Williams subscribes to overhaul at news (The Australian) www.theaustralian.com.au/business/opinion/lachlan-in-the-wings-as-williams-subscribes-to-overhaul-at-news/story-e6frg9tf-1226263177233

salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/2518/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=10511For almost 100 years, the Roman Catholic Church has had a strong relationship with the Girl Scouts. Scores of local Girl Scout troops are hosted by Catholic parishes, and about 25% of Girl Scouts are Catholic. But now, in response to completely bogus charges by right-wing extremists, conservative Roman Catholic bishops have opened an official inquiry into the Girl Scouts of the USA -- despite the fact that the Girl Scouts do not take any positions on sexuality, birth control, or abortion. We can't let what happened to Catholic religious sisters happen again to the Girl Scouts. The millions of girls and families who participate in the Girl Scouts don't deserve to become victims of right-wing culture wars. Sign our petition and tell the Bishops: Leave the Girl Scouts alone!
