My version, conservatards are retards. As The Huffington Post reported in February, a study published in the journal "Psychological Science" showed that children who score low on intelligence tests gravitate toward socially conservative political views in adulthood--perhaps because conservative ideologies stress "structure and order" that make it easier to understand a complicated world. Ouch. And now there's the new study linking conservative ideologies to "low-effort" thinking. "People endorse conservative ideology more when they have to give a first or fast response," the study's lead author, University of Arkansas psychologist Dr. Scott Eidelman, said in a written statement released by the university. Does the finding suggest that conservatives are lazy thinkers? "Not quite," Dr. Eidelman told The Huffington Post in an email. "Our research shows that low-effort thought promotes political conservatism, not that political conservatives use low-effort thinking." www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/07/conservative-politics-low-effort-thinking_n_1410448.html?ref=mostpopular

The thing I find disturbing about the modern conservative voter is that they seem to so utterly lack imagination.
They cannot envisage what it is lie to be in another person's shoes. What it is like to be a single mum. What it is like to be a minimum wage worker. What it is like to be an illegal immigrant. What it is like to be an Afghan housewife getting bombed daily.
Compassion and understanding come from being able to out yourself in the position of another. To conjure scenarios in your head about what your children might suffer in those circumstances, how you might feel to see them hungry or without medical care. Sending them to school wondering if they'd be blown up during Maths. To feel the struggle and the doubt and the fear that someone with so much less than you or in so much more danger than you might experience.
They're just incapable of doing it. And that to me very much says that they're not the brightest lights on the Christmas tree.
Smart people have imaginations.

That and they seem to think they honestly have a chance of being in the 1%, regardless of their position in life. It's mind boggling.

I'm pretty much incapable of putting myself in other people's shoes if I haven't been there myself. I also have next to no imagination.
I need to find a quiz and see if it can tell me if I'm conservative or not...

Moley!!!!!! call 118118 and find out what my opinion on this is. Don't fuck around at 37p per minute though. I just want a "for it / against it" opinion. I'll fill in the details with something out of the Viz.

Sadly some of the most stoopid heads are in politics but they had a public school edgumication so they have plenty of Daddies money, are corruptible and can be bribed easily.
Very "Con"servative. In England they are called Tim Nice But Dim similar to the likes of Boris Stoopid Johnson

It's also why "conservative" sense of humour is usually not so great and a bit spiteful. Humour requires the ability to see things from another's perspective, or at least another level. Sometimes self deprecation or to no take things seriously is involved.
People who take things literally tend to have a hard time with all of these things.
The correlation with conservatives and religiously conservative people comes from the fact that often they think things that if they stopped to examine (homosexuality, abortions, guns, death penalty), would realise that they are flawed and hurt other people.

I have found that most people I have talked to lean to the right on some subjects and to the left on others. Then there are others that stay in the middle. It takes all three for a balance to be maintained in government. I have never heard of a perfect government, but lets face the fact that politicians that we vote for run the government. So if you can vote, but choose not to you have no right to complain.
