What makes it easier for some people to tell massive lies when some of us struggle to bother at all? Obviously not all lies are sinister but is the compulsion asspect genetic? OCD "Bullshit" gene or something like they cloned Obama with. Otherwise how do they have the audacity? When one lie has to back up another and so on and so forth.......
I feel I could lie if I wanted to be cunning and sly, but don't need to, so have you heard where it is genetic?
And do we all lie without knowing because we simply believe in ourselves so much?

I have known compulsive liars who simply were unable to tell the truth.
Or am I lying?

I know people who are incapable of distinguishing the truth from lies. It is very disturbing. They don't even know when they are telling the truth or lying because to them everything they say is the truth.

Narcissists and sociopaths do it. They lie so often, so easily and so well that they become morally outraged when you don't believe their lies. As righteously morally outraged as if you had disbelieved a truth.
A lot of people with low self esteem do it too. To make themselves sound better than they think they are. Because they don't think they're good enough and so they embellish. But usually it's the first group.
There are a lot of them about. Disturbingly enough.

Why bother with the truth, if you can make up something more interesting or entertaining?

Why bother with the truth, if you can make up something more interesting or entertaining? Well OK I do that but it's perfectly harmless

Why bother with the truth, if you can make up something more interesting or entertaining? Well OK I do that but it's perfectly harmless Of course it is. It would be impossible for humans to live together if we all told the truth all the time. 'Good manners' are just social lies. Little platitudes we know are mostly bullshit, but we follow the conventions so that social intercourse can take place. Then there's "Diplomacy". More lies, to smooth over some faux pas or other. How many times a day do people say "Sorry" when they're not? Or "Lovely to see you", when it's patently obvious that they loath the person concerned? Human women even lie biologically! They are just about the only mammalian females who show no outward sign that they're ovulating. This means that if a male partner wants to ensure that she only becomes fertilised by him, he has to constantly be around, making himself useful, showing his best side, and driving all competition off. Then, when pragnency (sic) occurs, he's invested at least a month's worth of energy into ensuring his seed is passed on, rather than the customary "tumble, nod, and a wink". This makes for exceptionally tight pair bonding, and also goes a long way towards making sure our comparatively stupid and slowly maturing offspring have the optimum number of parental units. Lying is a lifeskill, so much so that some of the most powerful people in society are actually designated as professional Liars, (or "Lawyers") and paid shitloads of money to tell bigger and more convincing lies on your behalf, than the next bloke's Liar. We've even made a kind of sport out of it. Why do you think a Courtroom is called an "Arena"? There's a special referee, called a Judge, strict rulebooks that have to be constantly referred to, two teams, "Prosecution" and "Defence", each with their own points man, taking it in turns to lie their arses off, in order to achieve a win, or "Verdict" for their side. The most convincing Liar wins. The referee has a hammer instead of a whistle, but the rules are the same. The Truth is a precious thing, and should be used sparingly. But it's generally self evident, so we only need to sail faairly close to it, and pay it enough lip service to maintain an acceptable level of integrity. Otherwise, it'll be all "No Dear, those jeans don't make your arse look fat, your big flabby buttocks do that all on their own". And that level of truth spells nothing but doom, and misery for everyone concerned. The Truth hurts, and like most things that hurt, it usually ends up getting used as a weapon.
