Yep, triple digits here for yet another week and currently in the worst drought since the 50's. This shit is getting on my last nerve.

During Australia's Ash-Wednesday bushfires I remember how the sun filtered through the heavy smoke giving everything a strange Mars-like look. All the color was shifted heavily towards the red. I've never forgotten it. I was much younger then and I really thought the world was ending. You guys in America - You take care if close to those bushfires of yours. Are you still having those heatwaves as well? Yep... lookin' like 100 degrees or higher for the next few days at least...

Just got home, it's almost 5 pm, the temp gauge outside reads 102 degrees! Holy Moly it's hot out there!

640 acres burned yesterday about 4 miles from here. Today is nice, cooler, overcast and on and off rain.

All the while the heat wave has been tormenting much of the western states, Northern California has been having record cool temps.
How odd is that?

I think this sort of weather has always been happening. They say it's an "extreme weather event", a part of global warming, but I don't know. This planet is a dynamic living thing, ever changing, never the same from one day to the next.
We pay more attention to it today because we hear more about it on the TV, the radio, from all over the world. Plus - someone gave it a name: Global Warming. And once we have a name for something it gets thrown around all over the place.
Our little planet is just telling us it's still here, still alive, still ever changing.

Still no break in triple digit temps. Crops are withering in the fields, wells are drying up and no rain in sight.
Corn prices are already rising and road side stands can't keep the produce from withering before it sells.
I had to buy a wading pool for the dogs, there is no other escape from the heat for them. They aren't allowed in our daughters house and we can't run the AC in ours because of inadequate electrical hook-ups.
It's so dry that operating balers are starting fires. We are sitting on a tinder box and planning our route to Colorado around fires, 10,000 acres burned 60 miles west of here. Beginning to think we should have stayed in New Mexico!

Shit, it's probably cooler in Southern Arizona! No forests or prairie to burn either! Let me know when you get in to Greeley Hatter. We'll make arrangements to get out there to visit you. Oh, a little advice for your pooches, put wet towels on the floor for them to lay on, hang wet sheets over your open windows, if there's any breeze it will cool the inside of your "house". Do NOT give them ice water or ice, it causes them to cool down too rapidly and can cause bloat. Trim as much of their hair off as you can, but, don't expose skin. {I can do that for you after you get down here, if you want}. Dogs only sweat on their paw pads and tongue, so cooling the bottoms of their feet will help. Set up a fan blowing across a block of dry ice, be sure you barricade it off so it doesn't get touched! Just a few things I've learned in my years of traveling with show dogs.

For sure on the wet towels thing. Also have a fan if you've got one, blowing through the wet towel. Hang heavy fabrics on any windows to keep as much heat from radiating through as you can. Even over the walls of your camper van. Woollen blankets are best. If you have access to a hose and there are no issues about the amount of available water, hosing the exterior of the van will also cool it down for you inside. Esp the roof.
Also, drink tepid water, not cold, no matter how tempting it may be to drink the cold.
You're hydrated far better by the tepid water.
I also find that running water over the pulse points on your wrists and pouring it down the back of your neck will, if you or Terry become very distressed by the heat, cool you down quite quickly, esp if you sit in front of the fan while it's still very wet.
Avoid consuming any more than small amounts of alcohol till the sun has gone down, no matter how tempting the beer might seem. It's a sure fire way to dehydrate you.
Trust me, I'm Australian. If there's one thing I know about it's avoiding heat stroke.

Thanks guys, all my flooring is carpet and with the humidity at 30 - 50% it would mold or start rotting my floor unless I put the wet towel outside. We rarely drink alcohol before 7 PM, unless it's beer when grilling or something. Lately it's been 9 Pm.
I really look forward to meeting you Witchi! Careful though, since I suck at grooming I may just take you up on that offer!
