Last summer after a record period of deluge, at the same time as Brisbane was flooding the town of Toowoomba, north west of there suffered a Tsunami. The peculiar thing about that was that Toowoomba isn't on the coast. An ancient waterfall had sprung back into action as creeks which had been dry for decades ran over and flowed into its catchment. Entire houses with families still inside of them were swept away. It looked like this.

Resembles The Big Thompson Canyon flood that hit when I lived in Colorado. Flash floods are a real bitch.

Survivors said they clearly heard families screaming inside houses that were being carried past their own as they perched on the roof. One whole family was washed away in their car. They had got into the ute when they saw the water coming and it picked them up and carried them away with it. Imagine that. Seeing your neighbours swept away and being powerless to help them. And certain you were next.

Yeah, here before we go in an ravine or arroyo I make sure it hasn't been raining uphill. Flash floods have zero mercy.
