Fuck you. If the recent news about the government's ability to peek into your private data worries you, you aren't alone. According to pro-privacy search engine DuckDuckGo, site traffic has surged some 44% since news of the NSA's Prism program broke. Even if you aren't concerned, a bit of security is never a bad idea: It can help keep your information private and out of the hands of hackers, marketers and anyone else who might want to make use of it in a way you might not like. Here are some simple, privacy-friendly ideas to help you keep ahold on your personal information. www.thecalifornian.com/usatoday/article/2465057?odyssey=tab|topnews|text

I have a computer programmer AND 2 computer networkers in my house that set up the wireless network we use. Plus Norton. We have around 100 IP addys that we can log onto. I have asked a few times how secure our network is and I have been assured that it's pretty strong. The only time it's an issue is when I'm out of the house. Even then, I have Norton on my laptop AND my tablet. My brother was required to take a hacker class to learn how to hack computers & networks in college and that was about 13 years ago. He has stayed up to date though. That being said, about the only TRUE way to be safe is to not log onto the Net to begin with. LOL This was a good article for everyone to know.

I'm a future immigrant, and an American-wed foreigner. I assume your gov has been collecting info on me since I created my first website in 1993.

Working for the NSA has got to be the worst job ever... imagine all the fetish porn they have to sift through. worst case scenario- NSA + Xtian theocracy I have a computer programmer AND 2 computer networkers in my house that set up the wireless network we use. Plus Norton. We have around 100 IP addys that we can log onto. I have asked a few times how secure our network is and I have been assured that it's pretty strong. That being said, about the only TRUE way to be safe is to not log onto the Net to begin with. LOL This was a good article for everyone to know. Eh norton brings it's own issues tot he table- and anti-virus is going to address the issues inherent in Windows. But yeah it's not hard to lock down your own system- the danger is what you send through your ISP and what is logged on the sites you visit. Some foreign sites are safer. If the server is off-shore and that other government stands its ground you've got some protection there. However your ISP can monitor anything that goes through your connection and that's where you need encryption. Multiple IP's wont really help you there... you can bounce around proxy to proxy and they wont know where the info is going but they will know what was sent through their network if it's not encrypted.

It's just too bad Tor is slow as shit. Almost like being back on dial up except without the fun modem noises.

I never proxy. I am so overexposed I've sort of given up. I'm just prepared to testify to just about anything I put out there, ever.
My kiddo's in a cybersecurity team at school--he's learning so much scary shit it's amazing him. He just read a book on what the Patriot Acts did for public "safety vs. privacy," and he's very pissed off. I just kept nodding as he was telling me this stuff going, "yup."

Since I'm so mobile, if shit got bad we would just leave the laptops at a truck stop in plain sight and be on our merry way.

Tor won't help, if someone really wants to spy on you. They just go to the nearest internet hub and plug in a packet recorder. Your ISP won't even know. And it really doesn't matter whether you're tethered or roaming.
