I find myself liking them despite myself, great voices. It's not music I would seek out though but it's a damn sight better than freeze dried pop in a can and the usual cowboy country.
Not all country and western is bad,I just find the mainstream boot scooting stuff offensive to my ears.

Get this up ya then.
Sara Storer was a school teacher in remote South Austrakia. She taught at an indigenous school before becoming our most successful female country and western singer.
Amazing woman.
Still devoted to the cause of educating black kids in the bush.

I just love bluegrass music.

In Australia until the late 1960's it was official policy of the govt to take children whose fathers were white from the ir aboriginal parents...to educate them to be servants and slaves for the white landowners.
These children have come to be known as "The Stolen Generations"
Archie was stolen.

I remember when I first read about the taking of those children I was horrified.

This is Uncle Bob Randall. An incredibly wise and respected elder. He is known as Uncle as a term of great respect. All elders who have a high degree of respect are referred to as Uncle and Auntie. I know in the US it is deemed terribly racist to call a black man Uncle and you know what? I dont give a fuck...Uncle is to me a term of reverence and my Uncles will always be called so...if you're offended anyone out there...go fuck yourself..this is my culture I'm talking about.
Are you gettin the idea there's a lot of black fellas in country music here Hatter?? lol
"Black fellas" is also our word ....and if you don't like it read another thread.
sorry...I just like to pre-empt the shrieks of "you racist bitch' now..I learned.

It's still an honorific among many First People tribes here as well. Yes I am, there have been very few blacks in country here, go figure.
