I have nothing against muslims I already said that. I respect all religions, but do they respect mine. Would your husband respect me coz I'm Wiccan? What I was saying is obama gave up his religion to become a christian to aid himself in the elections. He always struck me as a closet atheist if anything. Yeah, THAT is a more reasonable assumption. He's had to walk a fine line because the hellfire/brimstone pastor he used to go to church with was pilloried by the McCain camp (remember "GodDAMN America?") was so fanatical that he's now sort of divorced from that sort of evangelicalism that he might have been able to court earlier in his career. All eyes are on him, and those eyes are as critical as they can be.

This is my thing, where has there ever been any proof that Obama was a muslim? I mean yes, people have said so, but there has yet to be any actual proof.
He was raised by his mother and her family and they aren't muslim. He's admitted his contact and time with his father and that sied of his family has been severely limited, so what makes him a muslim?

Prejudice is all I can think of. *shrug* Both against him and those who practice Islam. It's an insulting thing to say, mostly because it makes it sound as if the following two premises are true, that 1) Obama's just lying when he says he's Christian and 2) being Muslim's somehow fundamentally badwrong bad and so that's why he hides it. Espousing such specious erroneous tripe says much about the person doing it. I know I sound harsh...but still. What if I said a blanket statement about witchcraft? I know better, but what if I did? It would mark me as a prejudiced idiot, that's what.

I blame Bush and his warmongers.
I am in no way belittling the tragedy of 9/11. I lost people in the towers and I understand the devastation it has caused countless people across the country.
The people of America were spoon fed hate and prejudice during a time of serious emotional distress. The country was in mourning and the governement took that opportunity to program us against an entire culture, when it was one man and the fanatics who followed him who were responsible.
We, in our "know it all" arrogance in turn invaded multiple countries under the guise of "finding those responsible" and in the course of those invasions we have torn multiple countries and families apart, lost countless American citizens and probably destroyed any chance of our having peace with the mideast.
It's a terrible circle of hate and greed and we jumped in the middle and got stuck on the merry go round. We can either jump off completely and do our thing and stay the fuck out of the mideast, or we can continue down our current path of war mongering and hate.
America is still very butthurt over 9/11. We act as if we are the only country to have to deal with such terrible acts of terrorism. The problem is we aren't. We weren't the first and I doubt we'll be the last. Europe has been dealing with terrorists for years. The mideast has been dealing with terrorists for centuries. We thought we were safe from such things and it made us arrogant, we were wrong, the problem is the arrogance has only gotten worse.

It's lack of education. And the Republicans are notorious for liking their people dumb and ignorant as possible.

Yes, we do truly need to get a better control over our education system. It never ceases to amaze me what is no longer considered necessary.

I will no longer mix religion and politics. It's like riding that missle into the Yellow Sea. Khara I give you permission to slap me silly if I ever do again. Jenne sorry if I got out of line. I can be opinionated and pig-headed at times. That's when you can slap me.Hope we can be friends.

Oh sweetie, don't think a thing of it. We're all from different places, ideas and upbringing. I fully expect we shall all at some point butt heads. Just as long as everyone understands it ain't personal.

I'm currently living in a majority Muslim country and there is complete freedom of religion here. In fact, from a social standpoint, religious discrimination is considered 'cok ayip' (mannerless). I see Jews, Christians, Muslims etc living together without issue.
Not to mention that any political leader that tried to use religion to divide the country would probably be hung from a tree.

I was in Morocco for 5 months in the early 90's and I have never been treated so well, made so welcome or felt so safe anywhere I have ever travelled as I did there. I was taken in to raise by a family whose little boy had been at the airport offering his services as a tour guide. He spoke English so well and was so cute 0 he was * years old!! I took him up on his offer and by the time he had finished showing me some of the markets and amazing buildings of Marrakesh he had invited me back to meet his mum. I also lived all my life as a child in Fairfield in Sydney, an area with a high proportion of Middle eastern immigrants. There is a mosque and a prayer house in the suburb I now live in and apart from seeing some appalling racism direct AT Muslims, I have never had a moment's problem with any of my Islamic friends or neighbours. What so many in their ignorance and blind belief of all the anti Islamic propaganda we have been subjected to for decades even before 9/11 fail to realise is the the first edict of the Qu"Ran is to tell Muslims that breaking any secular law of a country in which you live is haraam - very bad. In fact Muslims are UNDER REPRESENTED in crime statistics in every western nation because of this edict. They are esp innocent in the area of drink driving infringements...
