I discovered last week that I somehow failed to read Moving Pictures, one of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. I don't know how I managed to miss it, but it just came in the mail today. Am I weird for being close to orgasmic over a book?

Glad to know I'm not the only one! And yeah I have them all, but some are pretty ratty paperbacks I'll eventually swap out for hardcover. Since Pratchett is one of the few authors I'll read more than once.

Second hand Pratchetts are as rare as rocking horse shit here. People hang onto the buggers till they fall apart and then buy new ones. The only two I have ever managed to find are Hogfather and Guards Guards - both flukes in that I happened to be in the shops the day they came in.
And no Meds - not at all mate. I can't imagine anything more worthy of getting giddy over apart from the prospect of good sex.
And Pratchett is far more reliable as the giver of pleasure than most men I've known lately, quite frankly.

My sexual prowess has been known to make women laugh every bit as much as a Pratchett novel. So there!

Is there anyone on here that doesn't love Pratchett? I got about halfway through his collection and decided I had to quit cold turkey, only because I want to space them out more. Before that I was in a long dry spell of not being able to find good books to read. I've decided not to read another one until the next time I travel, and really need a book I know I will love when waiting in airports, etc.
On a related note, any one read Snuff yet? How was it?

I'll look out for them for you. (I am a second hand book seller and always pick up Terry Pratchetts when I see them.) Cool man. I recently read "Thud" and "Snuff". Pratchett's writing in these two is sharper than ever. I think Sam Vimes has shaped up to be the most solid and detailed character Discworld has given us. The incorruptible man, constantly doubting himself. Descended from the man who killed the last King, then getting landed with Corporal Carrot, the same King's heir. Everybody likes Carrot. Everybody does what Carrot wants them to do. By default. Vimes knows Carrot would be the King if his ancestor hadn't chopped off the old King's head. . . .Vimes can see Carrot's Kingly charisma, and his easy way with people, and he doesn't trust it very much. But that's ok, because Sam Vimes trusts Carrot. Carrot is the most honest and honourable man there is. Thinking about it, Vimes and Carrot have a bit of a Gaspode/Laddie thing going on. Pratchett's peerless talent for building peripheral characters up over three of four volumes has given us priceless characters, like Ponder Stibbons, Nanny Ogg, and Lord Vetinari. In Snuff, Willikins is given his head, and it works perfectly. Thud takes a good look at the topically close to home theme of Religious Intolerance and Fundamentalism. And it looks in some deep, dark places. But also gives us Mr Shine. Snuff is a thinly veiled analogy of how Nazism infected 30's Europe. With Concentration camps, ethnic cleansing, collaboration, racism, and genocide. Sound a bit . . . .grim? Yeah, it is in places. But Sam Vimes and Willikins make a right pair of double hard bastards, who will not give One. Fucking. Inch. Snuff is far and away the best Terry Pratchett book since . . . .the other 25 or so best Terry Pratchett books. And so is Thud.

Yeah,I can't summarise Snuff any better than BadBeast. It suffices to say that Sir Terry's early onset Alzhiemers hasn't hampered his prose,as of yet.
You didn't mention Unseen Academicals BB,I'd love to know your thoughts on that.

I remember putting off reading it, because I'm not a huge footy fan, and I didn't want to be disappointed by it. I do remember I wasn't disappointed though. Wasn't there a little candlemaking Goblin in it? Or maybe an Orc. Turned out to be a bit handy in a scrap? And there was some kind of crowd thing going on, like. . . Harry Potter meets the Chelsea Headhunters? And Vetinari having some clandestine diplomatic business with the Goblin lad? I'm going to have to dig it out and read it again now. ;D
