I would also like to note for the record that we have even managed to derail the thread started to discuss how we prevent thread derails and would suggest to all and sundry that this is an object lesson to you of what it would be like to live in a world where anarchy has won sway... ie: FUN...and hardly any shit blown up at all. Don't think of them as "Threads," think of it as "Strings." As in string theory. And the first law of Forum Mechanics™ states that "a String that starts in one universe, will inevitably wind up in another."

And btw: this post is so awesome it just made the news feed.

Question about respecting others. Those who know me from Yahoo know I try to treat core religious beliefs with kid gloves. But is there anyone here who's gonna care if I openly mock Scientology? I can't help it. It's just so damn easy. Having been a Scientologist for . . . .more years than I care to remember, I'm afraid I won't stand for any disparaging remarks regarding Scientology whatsoever. Any other religion, feel free to knock yourselves out. So I take it this is deemed inappropriate if aimed at you then? May I have a show of hands on that? oh and look - here's a hand showing it's opinion of Scientology:

I also think we now need to call the formalised grouping of guidelines:

There is also a difference between thread drift and a thread derail.

There is also a difference between thread drift and a thread derail. this is very true and the precise reason that I now choose to discuss the problem of rear crankshaft bearing slippage in single cylinder splash lubricated four stroke engines. The need for compromise between a secure fit on the crankshaft and ease of assembly leads to a fit that ought to be interference but through practicality of assembly is in fact clearance. The result is that the inner race spins on the journal resulting in wear.

S'OK Hatter. I smote him again. My science is going rather well, actually...down to 3 already from 29 the day I started it.....two days ago.

In many ways gallium arsenide is a superior semiconductor to silicon, but it is very difficult to work with. As such GaAs processes cost more, but more importantly it restricts how small components can be made, meaning that the resulting microprocessors must have less density and therefore less processing power. Still though, there are niche applications that they are useful for.
