Captain Utopia is looking for a new home! I saw that.... It took the dumb cunts 4 pages to decide that Howl's initial shriek of NO was a unanimous original opinion... That's the kind of bureaucratic pseudo democratic posturing I wish to avoid here at all costs. Amen to avoiding that kind of nonsense. Oh, and Howl is a master of playing the victim to the shitstorms he starts.

I'm just really heartened by the fact that after three weeks pretty much of laissez faire management style and 6,500 posts we have had not one single real report made and only a couple of snippy comments by people who have all returned almost immediately and engaged again in the same spirit they began with. It's going to be a member driven rule book and the membership here have proved to be fairly self regulatory, I reckon. Yews all make me feel:

I suppose that next week I need to set up a shit can archive, as active as we are it won't be long before we need to start splitting off the longer threads to prevent board glitches. What a wonderful problem to have!

I suppose that next week I need to set up a shit can archive, as active as we are it won't be long before we need to start splitting off the longer threads to prevent board glitches. What a wonderful problem to have! Innit?? Sweet natured little mob of trolls we have. I'd like to keep this thread open and maybe sticky it so every one who posts gets a chance to have a say about how a set of guidelines might be formulated. Or even if they don't have opinions they want to share so that they are aware that it is happening and we don't suddenly bring down some official looking edict on their heads as if we're pontificating from on high. So that way we get a notion of what issues are important to the members and make sure they get primacy in a formal manner. I really do want the posters to feel a sense of ownership and control over what happens here.

There are two ways to avoid people breaching the rules.
1) eliminate the rules
2) eliminate the people
clearly we need the rules

We also very much need people. I would rather have people than rules.

So you can know precisely which line of civil interactions you've crossed? I dunno if this has escaped your notice weewilly but you're about the only miscreant here wot is in any danger of eliciting any kind of official sanctions... Just sayin'

Personally I think the rule "No douchebags allowed" would suffice. I mean, we've already had a couple sticky political debates that would've turned into raging shitstorms on any other site I've ever been on, but the mutual respect and kindness here has kept it on-track and fact based.
Sooner or later some asshole will show up and create a mess. We will need a way to handle that. I like the idea of a temporary suspension, both to think things over or just to serve as a warning to the offender. Also you gotta have a way to handle the social idiots like me who may occasionally accidentally cross the line....
This is the first real forum site I've been on, so if you guys know something that I don't about how stuff should be managed, then I will respectfully comply.

This is the first real forum site I've been on, so if you guys know something that I don't about how stuff should be managed, then I will respectfully comply. What I have noted about a lot of forums is that they get all procedural and cliquey and that kills the energy - it's a balancing act obviously between anarchy which leads to creating great spontaneity and anarchy which leads to nothing but anarchic ranting but yes I noted too that the political debating here is a lot like it gets between us on facebook - all passion and dissent and then a mad flurry of .."you're not mad at me are you?" type PM's with replies saying"course not don't be daft" Whatever guidelines we do draft need to be able to take that spirit and institutionalise it so that as others join they are co-opted into OUR way of debating and not dragging us down the Net standard flame war and ire way. I wish to LEARN when I debate with someone and you can't learn anything if half the people in the debate are shouting "retard" and not a lot else.

Actually that's a decent sounding guideline.

That's just the kind of douchebagist attitude that needs to persecuted. Douchebags are a minority group typically underepresented in most areas. I think we should instigate a douchebag subsidy and special powers for douchebags.

The problem with douchebags is that they are generally associated with cunts.
